Just realized my 3 year old laptop runs AI image gen faster than my desktop build, and I can't stop laughing
Last month I finally tried generating a picture of my cat as a knight, and it took 45 minutes on my desktop. Then my 3 year old work laptop, which I spilled coffee on in 2021, cranked out 5 versions in 4 minutes. Am I the only one who has no clue how this stuff actually works anymore?
And it gets weirder the more you look into it. Its probably not even the laptop being faster, its that your desktop is trying to run the whole model on the graphics card while the laptop is quietly using something else that just handles it better. I had a similar thing where my old work machine beat my gaming rig on a video export and I spent a whole weekend trying to figure out why. Turns out newer software just picks the right tool for the job on its own and the old machine had been set up different. Most of us are just pushing buttons and hoping at this point.
