My image upscaler turned my cat into a melting blob and I finally learned why
Last Saturday I was messing around with one of those free AI upscalers online, trying to fix an old photo of my cat from 2011. The thing is 800 pixels wide, kind of blurry, so I figured I would run it through and get a nice clean version for my mom for her birthday. It took about 4 tries because each time the face came out weird, like one eye would drift up and the fur looked like melted cheese. I almost gave up but then I read the tiny help page and it said to use a 2x scale instead of 4x before pushing it bigger. Did that, ran it again, and the whole thing came out clean, no weird face, fur actually looked like fur. Took me maybe an hour total to figure out one checkbox was wrecking everything. Has anyone else had an upscaler cook a face like that, and did you find a setting that fixes it?
