My sister and I set up a chatbot to end our debates, but it started picking favorites.

Picking favorites" makes it sound so personal, but it's just code doing code things. The bot probably just latched onto whoever's arguing style was closer to its training data. Not exactly a family betrayal, just a weird tech glitch.

What if it's not about arguing style but who the bot thinks sounds most like an authority? Sometimes the training data just has way more examples of one type of person talking, so it leans that way without anyone realizing. It might be picking up on hidden patterns, like favoring comments from a certain age group or background in its data.

Did you catch that article on AI bias in training data? It said that bots often copy the biases in the data they're fed, like favoring certain talking styles. So williamb29 is right that it's code, but the code is just repeating messed up human data. Calling it a glitch makes it sound like an accident, but sometimes the data is just broken from the start. We have to clean the data, not just point at the bot.
