Can we talk about how I messed up chicken wings for a whole year?

I've been making wings in my air fryer since last summer and they always turned out kind of rubbery. Last week I was preheating for fries and accidentally put the wings in cold. They came out perfect crispy. Turns out I was crowding the basket too much with frozen wings straight from the bag. Now I do a single layer and pat them dry with paper towels first. Has anyone else had that "wait, i've been doing it backwards" moment with their air fryer?

Patting them dry is the real trick though.

Are you patting them dry with a paper towel or a cloth? Because I have tried both and one of them always leaves little fibers stuck to the mushroom. The paper towel never seems to get them completely dry either, they always feel a little damp still. I have given up on washing them altogether and just brush off the dirt with a soft brush now. Saves a lot of time and frustration.
