Hot take: that TikTok recipe for crispy tofu almost ruined my air fryer

I saw this viral video about coating tofu in cornstarch and soy sauce before air frying. Tried it last night and the sauce dripped through the basket tray and burned onto the heating element. My kitchen smelled like burnt plastic for 2 hours. I had to scrub the bottom with vinegar and baking soda three times to get the gunk off. Anyone else have a failed recipe that left your air fryer a mess?

Maybe it's just me but I think a lot of these viral recipes skip important steps for the sake of views. You gotta press the tofu really well first and maybe use less sauce so it doesn't pool up in the basket. Sorry your air fryer got wrecked though, that sounds like a nightmare to clean up.

Honestly never thought air fryers could get ruined by sauce until I saw people posting pics of their trashed ones. This totally changed my mind about just tossing wet stuff in there without thinking it through.
