The Great Air Fryer Disaster of Last Thursday
I had a day last week that was a total kitchen nightmare. I was trying to make crispy tofu for a stir fry, following a recipe that said 15 minutes at 400 degrees. It turned into black, rock-hard cubes that smelled like a campfire gone wrong. The real kicker was that I had guests arriving in 20 minutes, so I had to pivot and just order pizza. I'm convinced the recipe was wrong, but my partner thinks I just didn't press the tofu enough. Has anyone else had a recipe from a normally reliable site just completely fail in the air fryer? What's your go-to tofu method?

Following a recipe that said 15 minutes" is where you went wrong. Air fryers vary wildly, so you always have to check early. Your partner is probably right about the pressing.

Oh man, I'm totally with you on the bad recipe! My air fryer would have torched that tofu too. Honestly @robertb47, sometimes you can check it and it's still just wrong.

Ugh, air fryer recipes are the worst for that. They never account for how much moisture is in the food to start with. Robert's got a point about checking early, but Holly's right too, sometimes you peek and it's already a lost cause. Honestly, I just wing it and set a timer for way less than they say.
