Am I the only one who thinks wireless alarms have gotten way too complicated in the last 3 years?
Honestly, I started installing alarms back in 2019 and back then a basic wireless panel with four sensors took me maybe 45 minutes tops. Now with all these app integrations and cloud requirements, I spent almost 3 hours on a single system last Tuesday just getting the homeowner's phone paired and the wifi bridge to stay connected. Tbh the old wired systems were a pain to run cables for but at least they worked every time without a firmware update messing things up. Ngl I'm starting to wonder if we're overcomplicating things for customers who just want a door chime and a panic button. The newer systems look cleaner on the wall but I've had three callbacks this month alone for connection drops that were nothing I could fix. Has anyone else thought about going back to basic hardwired panels for simple residential jobs?

And the part nobody talks about is how these systems are basically forcing homeowners to depend on someone else's cloud server just to get a simple door chime (like what happens when that company goes under in 5 years?). I've seen it happen with a couple smaller alarm brands already where the whole system becomes a brick because the server shuts down. At least with a hardwired panel or even an old school wireless that just uses RF signals, you aren't relying on some random company's server staying online just to trigger a siren. The new stuff is basically a smart home gadget that happens to have a siren instead of a security device that actually works during a power outage or internet disruption. It feels like they sold us on convenience but really just added more failure points (and honestly more profit for them through subscription fees).

Did your buddy have to deal with that garbage where the alarm goes off because of a cloud server glitch at 3am and they can't silence it without logging into an app? My friend Mike had that exact nightmare last month, his whole system started screaming for no reason while the company's server was down so he literally had to pull the battery out and disconnect the panel. He swapped back to a basic hardwired system after that and hasn't touched the app once, says it's way better to just hit a button and hear a siren without needing wifi.
