Dropped $180 on a knockoff zone expander that cooked two keypads in one afternoon
I was wiring a 12-zone panel for a shop out in Mesa and tried to save a few bucks on a cheap zone expander I found online. Hooked it up, powered the panel, and within about 20 seconds two of the keypads went dark and started smelling like burnt plastic. Turns out the board was pushing way more current than the listing claimed, and I had to eat the cost of the keypads plus a second trip out there. Stick with the real board from your supplier, it is not worth the gamble. Anyone got a good way to test a sketchy board before it touches a live panel?
