Had a control panel panic at a job in Austin, realized my wire labels were useless
Pulled up to a service call on a DSC panel from 2009. Customer said zone 4 was false alarming. Opened the can, and there it was. My own handwriting from 3 years ago. Label said "BED2 WIN" and I had zero clue which wire that was. Spent 45 minutes ringing out every pair.
That's when it hit me. I never wrote down which side of the pair goes where. Or what the jumper does. Or that I used a different color code on that job. All my labels were just vague hints I only understood the same day I wrote them.
Now I use a labeling gun with full addresses on every cable. Plus I leave a cheat sheet in the panel. Has anyone else walked into their own old work and had no idea what you meant?
