Had a homeowner ask why I kept checking all the windows before installing the panel

Last month in Arlington, a guy in his 70s watched me walk around his whole house checking every window latch before I even opened my toolbox. He said his last installer just slapped the keypad by the door and left. I told him if someone can pop a window in 2 seconds, that $400 alarm system is just a fancy clock on the wall. Made me wonder how many of you deal with customers who don't get that the wiring is only half the job.

Man, you just made me rethink my whole approach honestly. I used to be one of those guys who focused almost entirely on the wiring and the panel placement, figure the locks were the homeowner's problem. But a few years back I did a install at this old house where the back door window was literally held shut with a stick, total afterthought. Customer complained about a false alarm and I realized I never even checked the perimeter that day. That stick moment stuck with me hard. Now I walk the whole property before I even pull out a screwdriver, it's just part of the routine and people usually appreciate the extra eyes on their place even if they roll their eyes at first.

Does your state even bond low-voltage guys for burglary liability?
