Showerthought: I used to think all alarm panels needed a dedicated phone line to work right.

Now I see most new installs in Phoenix just use cellular backup, and the change happened in maybe the last 5 years. Which setup do you think is more reliable for a standard residential job?

My old boss in Tucson swore by landlines for reliability. I've seen more cellular failures from bad signal than I ever did with a POTS line going down.

Yeah, my alarm uses both and it's been perfect.

That old landline debate is a classic. Ran into the same thing on a job last year where the cell backup kept dropping. Honestly, for a basic house alarm, a good monitored cellular setup has been solid for me, as long as the signal check is part of the install. The old copper lines were tanks, but the phone companies aren't really keeping them up anymore.
