Talked to a firefighter at a job in Phoenix and he changed my mind on smoke detector placement
He said they find a lot of detectors in hallways, but the smoke often pools in bedrooms first. Now I always put one inside each bedroom, not just outside in the hall. How do you guys handle placement in a standard residential layout?

Our code here requires one in every bedroom and hallway.

That's everywhere now. Feels like we're just adding more rules for everything.
