Vent: My client's system triggered during a storm last night.
Turns out, their backup battery was dead.

Local news said our area has storms every few months without major issues. A dead backup battery sounds bad, but how often does it actually matter? @fiona_murphy makes a good point about smoke detectors, and we all miss routine checks. Most backup systems are just for short gaps until power comes back. If the storm passed quickly, the client might not have lost much. I see this more as a reminder to check things, not a real crisis.

Oh man, I used to forget all the time. Now I just check them when the clocks change for daylight saving, you know? That actually works pretty well for me.
