18 years in the trade and I just learned primer surfacer has a shelf life

Honestly, I've been using the same old gallon of primer surfacer from my shop in Toledo for way too long. Last week I shot a fender with it and the paint fisheyed like crazy, then my supplier told me that stuff expires after 12 months if it's been opened. I never even thought to check the date code, and I've probably been wasting hours of block sanding on bad primer for years. Anyone else tracking their material dates or am I the only slacker here?
