A customer's old photo made me see a repair in a new way
Had a guy bring in his 1972 Chevy pickup with a dented fender. He showed me a picture from 1985 of the truck with his dad, parked in the same spot it got hit. The picture showed a small, old repair on the same fender, a detail I missed. It made me think about how many layers of history we work on. I spent an extra hour blending the new paint to match the faded patina around that old spot, not just the factory color. Has anyone else had a customer story change how you approached a job?

Honestly, that hits home. I had a lady bring in a vintage dresser with a deep scratch. She told me her kids made it when they were little, like thirty years ago. I was gonna fill it and make it perfect, but after hearing that, I just cleaned it up and put a little wax over it. Felt wrong to erase a mark that meant something to the family. You see the piece totally different once you know its story.
