Customer pointed out a 2mm gap on a quarter panel I did last month, still bugs me
I had a guy come pick up his 2018 Civic after I replaced the quarter panel and he pulled out a gap gauge. Showed me the door edge was 2mm higher than the fender. I thought I had it perfect but he proved me wrong. Now I check every single body line with a contour gauge before I send anything out. Has anyone else had a customer call them out on something small like that and change how you work?

Oh man, "pulled out a gap gauge" - that's the kind of thing that would make me want to crawl under the car and hide. I bet that guy probably has a torque wrench he uses on his lug nuts at home too. It stings when they prove you wrong but honestly that's the kind of feedback that actually makes you better. I've been there with a paint match that was off by a shade I thought nobody would see, and the customer pointed it out under a flashlight. Now I triple check everything under different lighting and angles you know.

Respectfully @mary_foster92, I see it a little different. Some customers just want to feel like experts and will nitpick anything to get a discount, so knowing when to push back and when to apologize is just as important as getting the work right.
