Got a thank you note from a customer this morning that made my week
I had this lady bring in her 2015 Civic last month after someone scraped the whole passenger side in a parking lot. She was super upset about it, like almost in tears upset, because she said she saved up for years to buy that car. I just did the work like normal, color matched the paint pretty close I thought, and she picked it up a week ago. Well today I found a handwritten card in my mailbox at the shop. She said she drives by the car every morning now and smiles because it looks better than it did when she bought it. Small things like that keep me going in this trade, you know? Has anyone else ever gotten a note or a call back from a customer that stuck with you?

Yeah absolutely, I had this guy I helped with his home gym setup a while back and he sent me a text like three months later saying he dropped 20 pounds and his back pain was basically gone. That one hit different because he was pretty down on himself when we started, just wanted to feel normal again. It's wild how something that feels routine to you can completely change someone's whole outlook. Those notes are better than any bonus check, honestly.

Reminds me how @oscar743 said those notes hit different, and it's true because we never really see the full picture when we're elbow deep in a job. The part that gets me is how people hang onto that stuff for months or years before telling you, like they had to sit with it and make sure it was real before sharing. Makes you wonder how many other people we've helped without ever knowing, just doing the routine stuff and moving on.

@oscar743 said it better than I could, those ones really do hit different. I used to just think of this work as turning a wrench, getting the job done, moving on. But a few years back a kid came in with a beater Ford Focus he bought for eight hundred bucks. Just needed some basic tune up stuff, nothing special. He sent me a photo a year later, that same car washed and waxed, with him in his high school graduation gown leaning on the hood. I still have the picture in my toolbox. That changed my whole view on what this job really is.

Oh come on, it's just a tune-up and a picture. You're acting like he named his firstborn after you or something.
