Hot take: a guy dropped a fender at my feet in the shop lot and it fixed my prep work forever
Two summers back I was at a shop in Fresno and this old painter watched me block sand a quarter panel for 40 minutes before he grabbed a fender off a scrap car and dropped it right at my feet, saying 'feel how light that is, you're sanding like it owes you money.' He showed me that I was pressing too hard and burning through my paper, and I switched to letting the block do the work with lighter passes, which cut my sanding time way down. Anybody else get taught a lesson by some random guy who just walked up and did something weird?
