I still use a slide hammer for some jobs, and people think I'm crazy.
At my shop, hydraulic pullers are the go-to for frame work now. I keep my old slide hammer because feeling the metal move gives me a better sense of the repair than any digital readout. Do you have any old tools you just can't let go of?

Man, this hits home. It's not just tools, it's like we're losing the feel of everything now. I miss when cars had real buttons you could push without looking, and music had that little scratchy sound from records. All this digital stuff is just too clean, you know? It makes things easier but it takes something away.

God, yes. It's all screens now, just smooth glass you have to stare at to use. You put your finger on a button and you can feel it click, you know exactly what you did without taking your eyes off the road. That scratch on a record, the hiss in a tape, it meant something was there, actually playing. Now everything is just perfect and silent and it feels sterile, like a hospital room. Sure, it's easier, but easier isn't always better, you know? It loses the thing that made it feel real.

Exactly, that physical feel is part of the job. I still use my old dial calipers instead of the digital ones... you get a better sense of the measurement by hand. You just know when it's right.
