Old timer at the shop in Bakersfield swore by spraying sealer on bare metal, and I fought him on it for a year
This guy Ray, been doing body work for 38 years, kept telling me to seal bare steel before filler or primer. I blew him off because the data sheets I read said epoxy over bare metal was fine and I figured he was stuck in the old days. Last spring I did a quarter panel on a 2015 Silverado and just primed straight over the metal. Six weeks later the owner came back with bubbling along the filler edge right where the sand scratches were. Ray didn't even say I told you so, he just handed me a can of sealer and walked off. Anybody else run into this, or was that a one off deal with that truck?
