Picked a spot welder over a panel adhesive kit for my first repair job and now I'm second guessing myself
So I had a 2016 Civic rear quarter panel that needed a whole new skin after a parking lot hit and run back in May. I had about $1,400 to work with and it came down to a used Miller spot welder off Marketplace or a full 3M panel bond kit with the gun and everything. I got the welder because my old boss always said glue is cheating on structural stuff, but now I'm seeing guys on YouTube bond panels in half the time with way less grinding. The welder worked fine on the job and the panel sits good, but I burned through 4 hours just on cleanup and sealing the welds. I keep wondering if I made the right call since most of what I get is insurance work on newer cars with thinner steel. Anybody running both and actually preferring one over the other for quarter panel jobs?
