PSA: That guy at the paint shop told me to skip the clear coat on a budget job

Last Tuesday I took a shortcut a buddy swore by at the supply shop in Phoenix and left off the clear coat on a Chevy fender. Two days later the paint started peeling in the sun and the customer came back furious. Anyone else get burned by someone's so-called pro tip that wasn't worth it?

Wait, you actually skipped the clear coat entirely?

Throw a couple coats of 2K clear on there right after the base dries enough to touch, @veraj53. I learned the hard way on my last fender - left it raw for a week and the sun ate through the color coat, looked like crap. That UV damage shows up fast if you're parking outside or in a spot that gets direct afternoon light. Seriously, don't let the base sit more than a day or two max before you seal it. Your finish will stay glossy way longer and chips won't spread as bad either.

Lent my car to my cousin once and he "helped" by hitting a spot with some aerosol clear he found in the garage, made the whole panel look like a wrinkly orange. Sometimes its better to just wait and do it right.
