Spent $45 on a infrared temp gun and regret not buying it sooner

Was fighting with a paint job that kept bubbling on me last week. Finally borrowed my buddy's infrared temp gun and realized my panel was 20 degrees hotter than I thought. For $45 at Harbor Freight it saved me from having to sand and reshoot the whole door. Anyone else use one to check panel temps before laying down paint?

Man I felt this one in my soul. Spent TWO weekends chasing a blistering clearcoat before I figured out I was baking panels in direct sun like a potato. My Harbor Freight gun is now the most abused tool in my box.

Dude, "most abused tool in my box" got me. That Harbor Freight gun has seen things. Two weekends is brutal though. @sanchez.pat, I think that's the kind of mistake we've all made at least once. I painted a whole fender on a cloudy day and it looked perfect. Then the sun came out and it wrinkled up like a raisin.

Why would you need a special tool to check if your panels are hot?
