Spent years sanding body filler too dry, a pro set me straight
I used to sand bondo until it was completely dry and dusty, figured that was the way. Then last month at a shop in Denver, an old timer watched me for a minute and said 'you're working way too hard, keep it wet longer.' Turns out I was shrinking the filler by sanding it dry, which caused pinholes and extra work later. Has anyone else had a basic habit that was totally backwards for years?

Well isn't that something. I guess I just never thought sanding body filler was that complicated. You wet sand Bondo? Seems like extra steps for something that's gonna get painted over anyway. I've been doing it dry for thirty years and my stuff holds up fine, no pinholes or shrinkage trouble. Maybe that old timer had his own way of doing things but I wouldn't call it a universal truth.

Yeah but dry sanding kicks up that nasty dust that gets everywhere.
