The $12 harbor freight dent puller I was dead wrong about

I spent years talking trash about those cheap slide hammer dent pullers from Harbor Freight. Buddy of mine brought one over to fix a door ding on his 2017 F150 and I figured it would snap after one pull. Turns out the thing actually works pretty decent for shallow dents if you drill the hole right and use the right tip. Has anyone else had good luck with cheap tools that you thought would be junk?

Funny how the stuff we assume is junk often turns out fine, that applies to way more than just tools.

So are you saying that cheap stuff can actually surprise you if you give it a fair shot? I've had that happen a few times and it always makes me laugh at myself for being so stubborn. It's like we get stuck thinking price equals quality and forget that sometimes the simple design just works. I'm glad your buddy proved you wrong, that's gotta feel good in a weird way.

Exactly! @grantp28 you hit it - we're all walking around with our fancy brand blinders on until something cheap just works better and we have to eat crow. Nothing like a $15 tool doing the job better than the $80 one sitting in your garage to humble you real quick. Funny how "you get what you pay for" is just something rich people tell us so we don't feel bad about being broke.
