Found out my barista's name is actually the same as my ex and I've been ordering from him for 6 months without noticing
The other day my coworker pointed out his name tag and I realized I've been saying 'thanks Dave' to my ex's doppelganger every morning at the coffee shop on 5th Street and now I can't go back without feeling super weird about it, has anyone else accidentally connected a total stranger to someone they used to date?

Oh no, that's such a weirdly specific kind of uncomfortable, I'd probably start going to a different coffee shop just to avoid the mental gymnastics every morning. The brain is so strange for not making that connection sooner, but honestly six months is a long time to find out your daily caffeine fix comes with a side of unresolved feelings.

Lucas nailed it, just skip the name and say "thanks" like he's a stranger.

Yeah I actually did something similar... I started going to a different Starbucks for like two months just to break the cycle. Then I just made myself go back and started calling him "man" or "dude" instead of his name. Made the whole thing less personal you know? Maybe try that, just skip the name entirely and say "thanks" or "have a good one" until your brain stops connecting him to your ex. It's weird but it works after a while.
