I thought I could handle a surprise party but my own proved me wrong

Three years ago my friends threw me a surprise party at a local pizza place. I walked in to find everyone yelling and a cake with my face on it, but I had just come from the dentist and my mouth was still numb. I tried to say thank you but it came out as a weird drooly mumble, and then I couldn't even eat the cake. Has anyone else had a nice moment totally ruined by bad timing?

My cousin got a big promotion at work and his wife planned a fancy dinner to celebrate. He had just finished a 24 hour shift at the fire station and fell asleep face down in his soup before the appetizers even arrived. The timing was so bad it became a family joke.

My record is falling asleep in a bowl of cereal during a morning meeting. At least your cousin had the excuse of saving lives first. Soup seems to be the universal sign a person has officially hit their limit. I’m just impressed he made it to the restaurant at all. That’s a level of dedication I can’t match, even for free breadsticks.
