Just realized I was the wrong person in my own awkward moment story

For years I kept telling this story about how I waved back at someone in a parking lot who wasn't waving at me. I thought it was funny but I always blamed the other person for being rude. Then last month my friend showed me a video he took of the exact same moment. Turns out the guy was waving at someone behind me and I stepped into his view. He looked confused because he was literally trying to wave past me. I had been telling the story wrong for like 8 years. It was my fault the whole time for not looking where he was actually looking. Now I check twice before waving back at anyone in a parking lot. Has anyone else completely misremembered an awkward moment?

Used to think people overreacted to stuff like that. But seeing real video proof changes everything. Yeah I'd be packing my bags too if I was him.
