Mistook a stranger for my dentist at a wedding, picked awkward over silence

At my cousin's wedding last Saturday in Austin, I saw this guy across the room and just KNEW it was Dr. Patel, my dentist. I walked up mid-dance and asked about my wisdom tooth extraction. He stared at me, said he was a plumber named Mike. I could've played it cool but instead I apologized three times and backed away into the cake table. My cousin still brings it up. Has anyone else confused someone important with a random stranger and then just doubled down instead of walking away?

Three years ago I waved at a guy in a Target parking lot and shouted "hey Coach!" because I was 100% sure he was my old baseball coach from high school. He turned around, it was not him, and instead of just laughing it off I yelled "great game last week!" and practically sprinted into the store. My wife still brings it up every time we pass a Target, which is honestly fair because I also hit a pole with my cart on the way in. At least you got a cake table out of it, I just got a weird look from a stranger and a bruised shin.
