Pro tip: hitting 30 awkward waves in a row at my cousin's wedding taught me something funny
So last Saturday at my cousin's wedding in Bakersfield, I somehow made it through 30 full minutes of my weird little habit of waving at people who were actually waving at the person behind me. I counted. Thirty minutes, one reception, a lot of confused faces. It started when the photographer waved at me to move out of a shot and I waved back all friendly, then realized he meant scoot, not hi. After that it kept happening, the DJ, a groomsman, even the grandma by the cake table who was definitely aiming at someone else. By the third time I just started waving at everybody preemptively, which somehow made it less awkward. My sister caught me doing it and said I looked like a politician running for office. I'm weirdly proud of surviving all 30 minutes without hiding in the bathroom. Has anyone else survived a whole event on autopilot like this, or is it just me who turns into a windshield wiper with hands?
