Shower thought: You're probably mocking your friends wrong without even knowing it

I caught myself doing this last week at a party. My buddy Dave told a story about tripping on a curb and I jumped in with a joke about his coordination. But I saw his face drop for a split second before he laughed it off. I realized I was confusing playful teasing with plain old mockery, and the difference is whether you're laughing with them or at them. Has anyone else had to relearn how to roast their friends without actually hurting feelings?

Watched my buddy Ryan roast his best friend at a BBQ and things got weirdly quiet for a minute.

Keep it to the stuff you'd be fine with them saying back to you. If it stings when you flip it around, that's crossing the line.
