The day I stopped writing phone numbers on my hand in Sharpie
Back in 2009 I used to put every number I needed on my left palm before going out in Tempe. The problem was I always used my work phone and the ink would smear by midnight, so I'd end up texting the wrong digits to people or calling my own voicemail. Now I just save contacts on my phone like a normal person, but honestly I miss the ritual of walking up to a random girl at a house party and asking if I could borrow a pen for my hand. Last week I tried to do it for a plumber's number and he just stared at me until I pulled out my phone. Has anyone else had a weird old habit that made total sense in the moment but looks crazy through today's eyes? I still catch myself reaching for a Sharpie when I hear a phone number on the radio.

The Sharpie hand was like a physical checklist, and now we've traded that for the anxiety of a dead phone battery.
