TIL the hard way that library quiet zones are no joke

Went to the downtown branch last week to grab a book and accidentally laughed out loud at a meme on my phone. The librarian shot me a death glare from across the room and a guy in the corner literally shushed me. Has anyone else gotten publicly shamed in a quiet zone before?

The weirdest part is when you accidentally make eye contact with them from across the room and now you're stuck in this awkward standoff where neither of you wants to move first. I've started wearing headphones even when I'm not listening to anything just to avoid the whole thing.
