A kind word from a stranger at the DMV changed my whole mood

Last Wednesday I was having a truly awful day. My car failed inspection, I spilled coffee on my shirt, and I had to wait an hour and a half at the DMV just to get a form. I was sitting there fuming, scrolling through my phone, when the lady next to me leaned over and said "that's a really nice pen, where'd you get it?" It was just a basic blue Bic, nothing special. But she smiled and said she liked how I was writing things down instead of using my phone. We ended up chatting for ten minutes about her kids and my job. That tiny little compliment broke the bad spell. Has anyone else had a stranger say something small that turned your whole day around?

My friend had something like this happen to her at the grocery store a few months back. She was having one of those days where nothing was going right, and she was just staring at the yogurt section for like five minutes. Some guy walked by and said "good choice, that one's the best flavor" and just kept going. She told me it was so small but it kind of snapped her out of her funk and she actually laughed about it. Sometimes the tiniest stuff from a stranger really does hit different.

That's a really sweet story. It's wild how a random comment from someone you'll never see again can turn your whole day around, isn't it? Glad your friend got that little moment of normalcy when she needed it most.
