Found out yesterday that the average American spends about 4 hours a week just looking for lost items in their own home.

I read it on a blog about productivity while I was actually hunting for my keys for 20 minutes this morning. The stat said that adds up to almost 9 full days a year wasted. That's like a whole vacation just gone to digging through couch cushions and junk drawers. Made me feel a little better about my messy desk though. Has anyone else found a weird stat that just hit different?

Oh man, that stat is brutal but so accurate. I used to lose my wallet at least once a week until I got one of those sticky phone card holders on the back of my case. Now when I misplace my wallet, I just track my phone instead. Your mileage may vary but it saved me from at least 8 couch cushion dives a month. Also, I started keeping a little tray by the door for keys and mail and it cut down the hunting time by like 80 percent in my experience.

Dude seriously that tray by the door thing changed my life too. I got one of those wooden catch-all trays from a thrift store for like two bucks and now my keys actually have a home. Couch cushion diving is real though, my back hurts just thinking about all the times I had to fish around for my phone or wallet between the cushions. The phone card holder trick is genius actually, might have to borrow that one before I lose my wallet again today.
