My dad's one weird tip for fixing a garbage disposal actually worked

My dad kept insisting I should drop ice cubes down the disposal to sharpen the blades. I thought he was crazy but tried it last Tuesday after my kitchen started smelling like old food. Dropped in two trays of ice with some lemon peels and ran it, and it actually sounds way better now. Anyone else have a random parent tip that turned out to be legit?

wait so youre telling me dropping ice into your garbage disposal actually fixed it? i mean i guess it makes sense in a grinding kind of way but i feel like that's just gonna dull the blades faster in the long run. my dad tried that once and the ice just chipped a piece of the plastic guard off, total mess. lol
