My neighbor's kid told me I was doing dishes wrong and he was kind of right
He's 9 and he watched me struggle to scrub a baking sheet and said 'you gotta soak it first like my mom does or you're just making it harder on yourself.' Now I'm wondering what other simple stuff I've been overcomplicating my whole adult life - anyone else get schooled by a kid recently?

Tapping the lid actually releases the vacuum seal. But you gotta do it on a hard surface, not a countertop you care about.

Oh man, my neighbor's little girl caught me trying to open a jar last week and she goes "my mom says you have to tap the lid on the counter first to break the seal." I felt so silly because she was totally right. I've been wrestling with pickle jars for years and never thought to do that. Now she watches me cook sometimes and points out when I'm making things harder than they need to be. Kids notice stuff we just miss because we're so used to doing things the hard way.
