The night my local diner burned the toast changed my whole breakfast routine
Back in 2019 I used to hit up Mel's Diner on 12th every Saturday morning. One day the new kid working the grill charred my sourdough so bad it was basically a hockey puck. I complained, he redid it, still burnt. The owner came out and said "that's just how we do it here now." Haven't been back since, and now I make my own eggs at home. Weird how one bad toast can kill a 4 year habit. Anyone else quit a place over something small like that?

Man, that's rough. I had a similar thing happen at a coffee shop I went to every day for like two years. They switched roasters and suddenly my usual order tasted like burnt rubber. I mentioned it to the barista and she just shrugged and said the owner liked the new beans. I tried it once more a week later just to be sure, and it was still bad. Now I just brew at work and save the money. It's funny how these little things feel like a betrayal somehow. Like, you put in all that loyalty and they just flip a switch on you.
