The vintage mixer I got at a garage sale that ate my birthday cake

Last Saturday I picked up a 1960s stand mixer for $15 at a yard sale in Akron, it looked amazing and the guy swore it worked. Well, I got it home, plugged it in, and it started fine, but halfway through my daughter's birthday batter it just STOPPED, mid-whip, like it gave up on life. I opened the back and found a melted belt that smelled like burnt rubber, so I spent 2 hours at the hardware store trying to match it, no luck. Now I've got a bowl of half-beaten mix and a huge metal paperweight, guess I'm baking by hand tomorrow. Does anyone know where to find old mixer belts, or is this thing just a fancy decoration now?

Ugh I feel your pain, my grandma's old mixer ate a spatula once and I spent a whole week hunting for parts online before giving up and just using a whisk. Check eBay for vintage appliance parts, that's where I finally found my replacement belt, but honestly that thing might be better off as a doorstop at this point.
