Vent: Overheard a guy at the coffee shop bragging about his 'perfect' credit score

I was waiting for my order yesterday and this dude was literally telling his friend he hadn't checked his credit report in 6 years because 'it was 820 back then, so it's fine.' Then he said he just pays the minimum on his cards because the bank keeps raising his limit anyway. I actually choked on my drink a little. I had a cousin who thought the same way until a $35 library fine somehow turned into a collections mark that tanked his score by 100 points. These credit bureaus don't care if you were perfect 6 years ago, they care about right now. Has anyone else run into someone who thinks credit scores are permanent?

Wait, don't credit reports have errors all the time too?

They're definitely not perfect either, @val949... I've heard of people getting mixed up with someone else's debt just because of a similar name or a typo in a digit.

Read somewhere that like 1 in 5 people find a serious mistake on their credit report. It's scary how a simple error can mess up a loan application or even a job offer. Makes you wonder how many people don't even know they've got bad info on theirs.
