Hit 500 loaves from my home oven and had to double check
I've been baking sourdough out of my apartment in Portland for about two years now, and last weekend I realized I just cracked 500 loaves total. That number shocked me because I started with a failed starter and burnt crusts, but now I sell to a few neighbors and the local coffee shop. Has anyone else tracked their total output and been surprised by the number?

Hold up on that math a second. 500 loaves over two years comes out to about 20 loaves a month. That's only one batch per week if you're making five loaves at a time, but most home ovens can't fit five standard sourdough loaves at once unless you've got a really big setup. I'd double check how many you're actually counting, because if you're baking 3-4 loaves per batch that number is probably closer to 350-400. Could just be rounding up or counting the ones you gave away too early.

That "one batch per week" logic from sean782 is interesting, but I think the real surprise is how much oven space changes when you start using a baking steel and doing staggered bakes... you can easily crank out 4-6 loaves in a day if you plan it right. The bigger question nobody's asking is whether those 500 loaves were all standard size or if they counted smaller test loaves and half-batches too, because those add up fast in a home kitchen.
