Appreciation post: That time a rookie pitmaster in Memphis saved a whole competition with a bag of ice
Last year at the Memphis in May festival, a massive storm rolled in right before turn-ins. My buddy's smoker temp spiked and his brisket was cooking way too fast. This kid from a neighboring team, maybe 22 years old, saw the panic and ran over with a bag of ice. He told us to wrap the brisket in foil with the ice on top for 15 minutes. It dropped the temp just enough to save the cook. We ended up with a top ten call. Anyone else ever had a stranger bail them out with a wild trick like that?

Was it really that close to being ruined? A brisket can handle a lot of heat for a short time. Sounds more like a lucky break than a real save.
