I count my briskets. Hit #100 last weekend.

Started keeping track on a whim two years ago. Number 100 came off the smoker last Saturday. I had a crowd of friends over to eat it. Had no idea I was that close to the mark until I checked my log. Felt kinda weird to celebrate a number but it mattered to me. Anyone else keep a tally of their cooks?

Tracking my own incompetence" is pretty much where I'm at too. I thought keeping a log would make me feel organized but really it just shows how often I forget to write things down. Half my entries are just "another brisket, turned out fine" with no dates or details.

I feel you on celebrating a random number. I started a log for my smoker last year and I'm pretty sure I'm at like, 47 briskets right now but I've lost count three times already because I keep forgetting to write them down. So basically I'm tracking my own incompetence more than anything. I'll probably hit 100 and not even realize it until I find a half-finished notebook entry from 2023.

Used to think log keeping was for the obsessive types who weigh their charcoal briquettes. But seeing how easily a good run of briskets slips out of memory makes me reconsider, might actually be worth the effort to track it properly. At least then you'd know for sure if you hit 50 or 100 instead of guessing from half a notebook page.
