Pro tip: don't trust a guy in a parking lot with a 'competition ready' smoker
I was at the Memphis in May festival last year and bought a used offset from a guy who swore it held temp like a dream. Got it home, fired it up for a brisket, and the temp swung over 80 degrees in an hour because the firebox door seal was shot. Ruined a $90 piece of meat and my whole weekend. Anyone else have a story about gear that totally let you down?

That "held temp like a dream" line is a classic, and @daniel470's gasket tape fix is a good first step for a cheap rescue.
