Saw a guy arguing with a brisket on YouTube and it got me thinking

I was watching some old BBQ Pitmaster episodes last night and there's this one dude who stood over his smoker shouting at a brisket for 10 minutes straight. He said 'you WILL render that fat cap' and actually shook his finger at it. Honestly cracked me up but also made me realize how much passion some people put into their cook. Have any of you ever talked to your meat like it can hear you?

Used to roll my eyes at people who got all emotional about cooking, thought it was kinda silly honestly... but then I caught myself apologizing to a pork shoulder last weekend for pulling it too early and realized I'm exactly that person now. Something about standing over a smoker for hours just makes you bond with the meat, I guess.

Man, that hit me right in the chest... I remember giving my buddy a hard time for naming his smoker once, and now I've got a whole playlist just for the meat I'm cooking. It's like that time and patience changes something in you, you know? Standing out there by yourself with just the smoke and the heat, you start feeling like you're part of the process, not just some person waiting for dinner. I've definitely apologized to a brisket before for rushing the wrap, felt ridiculous but it just came out. There's something honest about it, all that effort and hope riding on one piece of meat.

It just bleeds into everything, doesn't it. @rosebarnes nailed it with that line about time and patience changing you. I caught myself apologizing to my car last week for forgetting to get the oil changed. That's what this kind of cooking does, turns you into someone who talks to everything like it has feelings. Makes you wonder how many other things we'd do better if we just treated them with a little more respect.
