Appreciation post: My grandpa's old toolbox still holds up after 40 years

Went to my folks' place last weekend and found my grandpa's old Craftsman toolbox in the garage. That thing is beat to hell but every latch still snaps tight, and the rust on the bottom tray makes it look like it's got character. Makes me wonder if anything I buy at the hardware store today will still be around in 2040. Do you hold onto stuff from older generations or do you upgrade everything?

My grandpa had the same box and honestly I tossed it when I moved last year. I mean, that thing weighed like 50 pounds empty. Modern stuff is lighter and I can get a new one from Home Depot for 40 bucks. Idk, maybe it's just me but I'd rather not drag around rusted metal just because it's old.

That old rust is just patina you can't buy at Home Depot.

Doesn't it feel like people just throw away anything that takes a little effort to keep?
