Had a kitchen shift last Thursday that nearly broke me

I work at a busy diner downtown and we got slammed with a 40-person walk-in right after the lunch rush. The ticket machine just kept spitting orders until I had 8 burgers, 3 omelets, and a grilled cheese all on the pass at once. Has anyone else had a shift where everything went wrong at the same time?

Man, I gotta push back on that a little. Grilled cheese being quick doesn't mean it's easy when you've got a full rail and tickets are piling up. It's the chaos of juggling multiple orders with different timings and sauces and sides all hitting the window at once that gets you. That 40 person walk in is a whole different beast than just cooking one sandwich. Anyone who's worked a real rush knows it's not about any single item, it's about the whole system falling apart when you're in the weeds. The ticket machine feels like it's personal sometimes, I swear.

Doubt Charles has ever worked a real Friday brunch rush, huh?

Grilled cheese takes like two minutes, maybe you're overthinking it?
