I finally cracked the code on never losing my keys again

I used to spend like 10 minutes every morning digging through my bag or patting down my coat pockets before heading out the door. It got so bad that my neighbor once watched me tear apart my car for 15 minutes only to find my keys in the fridge next to the milk. Last month I tried something simple I saw on a random blog: I hung a small hook right by my front door at eye level and made a rule that keys go on it the second I walk in. No exceptions, even if I'm carrying groceries or rushing to take a call. It's been 3 weeks now and I haven't misplaced them once. The trick is keeping the hook right where you can't miss it, not hidden behind a coat or on a cluttered shelf. Has anyone else found a weird spot or system that actually sticks for stuff you always lose?

right where you can't miss it" is the real MVP here. Most people put the hook too far from the door or behind something and it just becomes part of the wall. I put mine right above the light switch so my hand hits it automatically when i walk in, works way better than the shelf i used to use.

Huh, so you just go by muscle memory now? Does that mean you ever catch yourself trying to hang a coat on the light switch by accident?

I've definitely walked in and reached for the light switch to find a coat hanging there instead. What helped me was putting a small hook right next to the switch, about six inches over, so my hand naturally goes to the hook first before I even think about the light. It's not foolproof but it cut down on those accidental moments by a lot.
