I thought my morning walk was just exercise until I started counting birds
I've been walking the same two mile loop in my neighborhood for three years, mostly to clear my head before work. Last month, my kid left a little bird guide on the counter, so I started trying to spot different kinds. In just the first week, I saw 14 different species, including a red-tailed hawk that nests near the old water tower. It turned a boring routine into a daily treasure hunt, and now I notice way more about the small changes in my own street. Has anyone else had a simple task turn into something totally different like that?

Totally get that. Started picking up litter on my dog walks just to be useful, but now I'm weirdly into identifying different mushroom types that grow in the damp spots. It makes you look at the ground completely differently.

Yeah that "look at the ground differently" thing from @mason.brian is so true. It turns a boring path into a little scavenger hunt. I started noticing all the cracked pavement patterns too.
