I watched three different people at my gym in Boise try to adjust the leg press machine backwards last week.

The big red arrow pointing 'THIS SIDE UP' is right there on the seat, so why does everyone try to lift and twist the whole thing instead of just flipping the pin, you know?

Saw a fitness blog post about this exact thing. They called it "machine blindness," where people just don't see the labels. The writer said our brains go on autopilot in familiar places like the gym. Makes sense, but that red arrow is pretty hard to miss.

Honestly @alice269, that machine blindness thing sounds exactly right.

Close. It's actually called "inattentional blindness." Same general idea though, just a well known psychology term instead of a blog writer's name for it.
